We are willing to work with you to receive reimbursement from your insurance company, though procedures vary according to your carrier. We have good working relationships with standard Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia, State Health Benefit Plan, and Athens Area Health Plan Select. We will help with filing for other insurance carriers. We accept assignment for Medicaid with full documentation.

Payment is expected at each visit. Half of the fee for testing/psychological evaluation is expected at the first intake appointment, with the balance due at the feedback session when we give you a copy of the final report.

Though most insurance companies have mental health benefits, you should be aware of the advantages and drawbacks associated with accessing those benefits. Many companies do not cover services for marriage counseling, ADHD, learning disabilities, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, or Conduct Disorder. Most companies require a diagnosis of a "disorder" or "medical necessity" in order to pay benefits, so many clients who want help with life problems or self-improvement find their visits won’t be covered. We suggest you check with your insurance company to see what they cover and how benefits are authorized and paid. We will be glad to help you with whatever you need to get reimbursement from your insurance company.

Clients with managed care policies should be aware that their case is directly managed by the managed care plan. Prior approval or pre-authorization is required for all visits, and requires that you or your therapist disclose any or all information related to your case. This information is used to determine your benefits, including the type of service and number of visits. This does impact your rights of confidentiality, because the information is entered in a computer database at the managed care offices. We will be glad to help you with filing claims and requesting additional visits so that you can get reimbursement if you choose. Please remember that insurance benefits are a contract between you and your insurance company, and that we have no leverage whatsoever in negotiating with them.

At client request, we will begin accepting credit card payments sometime in October, 2000. We anticipate this will be another step in controlling our overhead and keeping our fees within the usual and customary range.

We have confidence in the value of our services and expertise, and want clients to feel the financial investment in these services is valuable in helping them reach their goals.
